Job description :
Our exclusive well established client - a North American provider of transportation services has partnered with Hubble Talent to uncover a Customs Manager who will report directly to the President. This Customs Manager will be responsible for a diverse staff and work out of their GTA west headquarters.
Responsible for:
- Efficiently and effectively manage the customs clearance of shipments to and from the United States.
- Consult with internal stakeholders to improve processes, and reduce costs related to Customs clear.
- Manage a unionized staff of 14 separated into 3 Groups (PARS / PAPS / Bond).
- Coordinate efforts/training for local Bond Clerks @ terminals across the country.
- Monitor Customs related processes for improvements.
- Maintain communication with related carrier partners.
- Monitor daily KPI reports to detect exceptions and take appropriate action.
- Maintain a knowledge of all I.T. related functions/software directly involved in the Customs process as well as supporting processes.
- Participate in planning for changes relating to the Customs processes (Terminal openings/closures/realignments).
- Communicate with process Owners when changes are required and/or implemented that will impact other processes (Line haul, Terminal Operations, etc.) to ensure there is no unintended consequences.
- Make operating system changes that support Customs processes.
- Monitor and maintain participation in cross border security programs (CTPAT / PIP - Portal requirements annual, site visits (every 2 to 3 years), perform security audits and communicate deficiencies).
- Respond to inquiries from internal Depts in reference to Customs processes (Sales / Partners / Operations / Linehaul / Customer Service / Rating).
- Respond to customs brokers and customers to resolve disputes and/or clearance problems.
Skills and qualifications :
- Licensed Customs Broker (preferred).
- Thorough knowledge of both Canadian and US customs processes.
- Experienced leader able to develop and then lead a high performing team.
- Logistics and transportation industry experience.
- Must be Bondable.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Highly skilled in the use of all Microsoft Office products, especially Excel and Word.
